Be warned - florists take full advantage on Mother's Day. They will hike up their prices not only on the flowers, but on the delivery too (as my poor boyfriend discovered when he called interflora on his lunch break earlier today!) So why not treat Mum to something that lasts a lot longer and will make her smile again and again. These lovely gifts from The Joy of Ex Foundation are perfect for all the yummy mums out there who love to eat, dance and have a good giggle (usually all at once!)

This Marianne Nilsson herring table runner will look great on any Mum's table, especially surrounded by the family eating a Sunday Roast - hint hint Mums. 45cm x 140cm and costing £26.05 (£21.10 + £4.95 postage & packaging).

New House Textiles

If, like me, you also like to buy a little gift for your Grandma on Mother's Day then maybe this Charlotte Farmer jubilee mug will tick that box. It costs £14.50 (£9.95 + £4.95 postage & packaging).
Anthropologie

If you haven't heard of Anthropologie then you are missing out! This beautiful shop is based primarily in America, but if your lucky enough to be strolling down Regent Street in London then you are in for an amazing shopping experience; imagine a grown up version of Urban Outfitters with plants growing out of the walls!

They sell clothes, jewellery, handbags and beautiful home ware. You will be surprised as a lot of the home ware is very reasonably priced for such unique and high standard products. This Chalkboard spice jar, for example, which is available in four colours; coral red, yellow, sky blue and lime green. The instore price is only £8.00! But if, like me, you don't get chance to get down to London very often then you can get it delivered for an extra £5.00. This may seem steep for postage and packaging but once it arrives you will completely understand. I have never received an item boxed more carefully - double boxed, padded and wrapped in tissue paper. And their attention to detail is truly outstanding; your receipt will arrive in a beautifully tied and stitched envelope just like the one below.

For that price you should treat yourself! Or maybe even a gift for Mother's Day?

These girly cook books are great gifts that just keep on giving! Not only will you be buying them a beautiful 'coffee table' cookbook, but you will also be buying them many days of fun in the kitchen.

The first book I would like to recommend is the latest Hummingbook bakery cook book - 'Cake Days'. The Hummingbird bakery company first landed in Notting Hill, London, in early 2004. The aim was to bring the home of quality American baking to the UK. Today it has five branches spread across the city and is famed the world over for its delicious cupcakes and other sweet treats and desserts. The great thing about this recipe book is that it never fails to make delicious and delightful cupcakes perfect for every occasion. Cake Days is the second of hummingbird's books which includes all the best recipes from the first book with tonnes of extra recipes all organised into seasons and occasions. Who can argue with £9.94 (£7.99 + £1.95 single item postage & packaging) for a years worth of amazing sweet treats.

The second and more extravagant is the 'Vintage Tea Party' recipe book. Vintage Patisserie is a vintage hosting company offering bespoke tea parties from a bygone era, delivering everything from music, makeovers and - of course - a customised menu of tea party treats that elevate any function into a swanky soiree. The Vintage Tea Party Book embraces the style and class of the trendy London Vintage scene and illustrates how to beautifully recreate the tasty treats and classic styles at home. With a unique mixture of recipes and feature spreads with accessible tips on hairstyling, makeup methods and where to collect vintage china -- The Vintage Tea Party Book has it all.

The only downside to this book is that a few of the recipes can be a bit pricey (for example, there is one recipe that uses quail eggs). This book costs a total of £9.94 (£7.99 + £1.95 single item postage & packaging).

However, if you prefer dining out to eating in then I have something to suit you too; Tea and Cake London. This book is a comprehensive guide of the best places to enjoy tea and cake across the capital city, and for a total cost of only £7.46 you can't go wrong (£4.66 + £2.80 postage & packaging from The book depository Ltd at amazon.co.uk).
